Which formula should I choose?

If your skin feels tight and flaky after you wash your face, choose the Dry Skin formula; if it starts to shine soon after, choose the Oily Skin formula. If your cheeks are dry and your forehead a little shiny, or you're not sure, the All Skin Types formula is right for you. All three are the same price and come in the same jar.

I have oily skin. Should I still use a moisturiser?

Yes. Oil and moisture are two different things; oily skin loses water too. The Oily Skin formula is a water-based gel-cream: it moisturises, reduces shine and doesn't leave your face feeling heavy.

Can men use it too?

Yes. Shaving also takes a thin layer off the very top of your skin. A thin layer of cream applied straight after shaving reduces tightness and stinging. The cream absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a greasy feel.

How much should I apply?

A pea-sized amount. Dot it on your forehead, both cheeks, chin and neck, then spread it upwards. Using more won't do more; it just sits on the surface.

Should I use it in the morning or at night?

Both. In the morning before sunscreen, at night after cleansing your face. If you apply it while your skin is still slightly damp, it seals the moisture in better.

Can I wear it under make-up?

Yes. Give the cream a minute or two to absorb, then move on to your make-up. That way your foundation won't look flaky on dry areas.

Can I apply it around my eyes?

You can, as long as you keep it out of your eyes: gently tap it onto the bone around your eye with your fingertip.

When will I see results?

You'll feel the moisture from the very first use. Getting your barrier back in shape takes time, though; to judge any cream, use it regularly, morning and night, for at least two weeks. Clinical studies usually run for 4 to 8 weeks, too.

What does prebiotic mean? Are there bacteria in the cream?

No, there's nothing living in the cream. A prebiotic is a nourishing substance used by the microorganisms that already live on the surface of your skin. A probiotic, on the other hand, is the living microorganism itself. The prebiotic formula in this cream supports your skin's natural protection and helps repair a worn-down barrier.

Is there scientific evidence behind prebiotic creams?

There is, but the field is new. In a placebo-controlled study, a prebiotic serum reduced water loss and redness over 8 weeks; other studies also saw an increase in hydration. Reviews find the results promising but also point out that the studies were small. You'll find all the sources on the Science page.

How does a prebiotic cream help the skin barrier?

The natural community of microorganisms living on your skin works together with your protective layer. Prebiotics are food for the beneficial members of this community. Prebiotic Skin Cream was made with this approach in mind and helps repair a worn-down skin barrier.

Are a prebiotic cream and a probiotic cream the same thing?

No. A probiotic is the living microorganism itself. A prebiotic is an ingredient used by the beneficial microorganisms that already live on your skin, and it isn't alive. There are no live bacteria in Prebiotic Skin Cream.

Does it contain alcohol or parabens?

No. The formula is free from alcohol and parabens.

I have sensitive skin. Can I use it?

The formula was developed with sensitive skin in mind. Even so, whenever you try a new product for the first time, we recommend applying a small amount behind your ear or under your chin and waiting a day.

How long does one jar last?

With regular use morning and night, a 50 ml jar lasts 2.5 to 3 months on average.

How should I store it?

Keep it with the lid closed in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. Stored this way, it has a shelf life of 2 years. Taking the cream out with clean, dry fingers helps protect what's inside.
